Open Mic at Parnassus Cafe

I didn’t have the foresight to take a picture of myself or anything, but this is my incredibly talented and artistic friend Juyoun “doodling” at an open mic that we attended hosted by the Bricolage literary journal! (By clicking here, you can also view the poem I performed.) I was so nervous going into it that I wasn’t even sure I would end up performing. But the atmosphere was very warm, supportive, and encouraging, and I signed up to perform a poem about halfway through. This experience of being bold enough to share my work really energized my writing–I kept writing all through the night and into the next week!
